Program Descriptions

BOOKLET CURRICULUM: Parents are the primary instructors. Each subject is made up of a set of colorful booklets that are sent based upon the payment plan chosen. The booklet format offers more handwriting experience as the Parents supervise student progress and grade daily work, quizzes, and a test prep assignment called a self-test. Unit tests are sent to the Academy for record keeping. The Academy tracks the student’s academic progress and sends semester report cards. A booklet in each subject will take an average of three weeks to complete. Each booklet combines reading pages, exercises, occasional projects, review, and a test.

ONLINE PARENT TEACHER: Parents are the primary instructors. Parents and students will have access to the built-in messaging system within the curriculum for procedural assistance. Western Christian Academy uses an award-winning internet-based structure for 3rd-6th graders with over 50,000 multimedia features, including digital tutors throughout the curriculum. Students can complete their schoolwork from anywhere using typical broadband internet access. A large portion of student work is automatically computer scored, which saves parents time and promptly corrects student thinking while the concept is fresh in the mind. Parents and student can view grades online anytime, which enhances student motivation.

PARENT TEACHER COMBO: The Parent Teacher Combo program uses a combination of booklet subjects and online subjects. The combo format helps transition students from an entirely paper-based curriculum to online curriculum by using a combination of formats for a year or more. The student will also have more handwriting experience for a year or more than switching entirely to an online curriculum. You can read more about both the online and booklet courses in the Parent Teacher Booklet and Parent Teacher Online program descriptions above.

ONLINE TEACHER ON CALL: WCA provides highly qualified teachers to instruct students and work with families. Parents can direct their student to use a WCA teacher for concept help and questions throughout the year. Students will have daily interaction with teachers to ensure the best opportunity for success. Along with the built-in message center within the curriculum, one-on-one academic assistance is provided via telephone, online whiteboard, and other tools.

Scope and Sequence for Booklet Program

Objectives for Online Courses:

This will overview the concepts the student will learn in each subject for the year. Each grade will normally have 10 units. (e.g. 300 is 3rd grade level, 400 is 4th grade level) You may want to review the information of all 10 units for each subject in your student’s grade level.

Computer Requirements For Online Program:

All you need is a web browser and access to the internet. Typical wired and wifi broadband will work for internet requirements. When using wifi, it is best to have a minimum of 802.11g so the text to speech feature works well. Usually wireless routers and access points less than ten years old will have 802.11g. Parents using dial up will not be able to use our online program. Some satellite internet providers may not work due to download size restrictions or download speed, so check with us. Air cards with broadband usually work.

Our system will work on both PC and Mac browsers. Many tablets will work, but the text to speech feature usually does not work. Some tablets do not have a good Flash player for multimedia features. Tablets will also need a good PDF reader app installed. Normally, it is better to have a traditional laptop than a tablet, because a USB mouse/keyboard and a larger monitor can plug into the laptop at home to offer a more desktop environment with better ergonomics and a student desk structure.

We also recommend taking steps for protecting your computer and student while online.

We would love to answer any questions you might have.
