Read all about this amazing place!

At 3,472 square miles—over 2.2 million acres—Yellowstone is larger than the states of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The vast majority of its territory is situated in Wyoming, but it also creeps into neighboring Montana and Idaho. Though not the largest of the United States’ national parks, it is noteworthy for its dense concentration of geysers, mud pots, steam vents and hot springs. According to UNESCO, which has designated Yellowstone a World Heritage Site, half of all the known geothermal features on the globe are nestled within the park.

Of all of Yellowstone’s geysers, none is more iconic than “Old Faithful,” which is capable of spewing water 180 feet into the air. The geyser first earned its name in 1870, when a group of early explorers noted that it erupted roughly once every 60 minutes. Early park promoters even advertised Old Faithful as erupting “every hour on the hour,” but decades of earthquakes—including one in 1959 that measured 7.5 on the Richter scale—have since altered its network of underground fissures and caused it to slow down. These days, the gusher often takes breaks as long as 90 minutes between eruptions.

Exploring Yellowstone National Park makes for an incredible adventure. It’s a crown jewel in the U.S. national park system. And what better way to do it than ogling waterfalls, trekking through serene forests, and soaking up wildflower-strewn meadows? Lone Star Geyser Trail is one of those “off the beaten path” places in Yellowstone. It is the ideal choice when you want to escape crowds. The trail closely follows the Firehole River through a forest. This mostly paved path is also suitable for bikes. The car park and trailhead is just south from the Kepler Cascade.

Lone Star has one of the largest cones in Yellowstone (10 feet/3 m high) and erupts about every 3 hours. You can look forward to seeing 45-foot (14 m) high eruptions that last about 5 minutes. These are followed by a loud steam phase. You can hear the noise a mile away!

The trail finishes at the junction with Howard Eaton trail (which is part of Continental Divide Trail). From there you can continue to Shoshone lake (which would be a full day trip) or go to the other side to the Old Faithful Village.

Experience the wonder of the volcanoes, no matter where you are.

JUNE BOOK LIST FOR KIDS

For 4 to 8 years old – Lizzi the Lioness

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is ask for help! Encourage your little ones with the true meaning of bravery through the beautiful story of Lizzy the Lioness by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Bevere.

Boys and girls will love the story of Lizzy, a little lion who must learn what it truly means to be brave in the face of hard things. When she sees someone in danger, Lizzy tries her best to help, but she quickly learns that sometimes being brave means asking adults for help.

By asking God for help and then bringing grown-ups into the picture, Lizzy shows kids that being brave doesn’t have to happen by yourself—it happens with help! You don’t have to be the biggest to be the strongest, and you don’t have to be the loudest to be the bravest. Show your children God’s truest definition of bravery with the timeless story of Lizzy the Lioness.

For Teens…Want to change the world?

Did you know… “You Were Made to Make a Difference?”

This adaptation of Outlive Your Life for teens offers practical tips youth can take out into their community to make a difference, plus real-life stories about those who have done just that. Teens learn that God can use them to make a difference right now. He wants to use them today, without waiting for them to be older, stronger, richer, or even more “together.” God can use their minds, their spirits, and their hands and feet to make permanent change for His kingdom.

Also included are valuable resources, interesting facts about the needy in the world and how little it takes to make a big difference, and other interactive elements such as journaling opportunities for writing personal ideas and service goals.

Teens will learn that their role in life is bigger than themselves, and that they’re not too young to make a difference for God.

Parents you can find these books in your local Christian bookstore or Amazon. Support your local Christian Bookstores if you can or soon you may find that we do not have them anymore.

Meet The Staff Corner

Introducing WCA Vice Principal/Academic Counselor

Tammie Barr

I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology from Ashford University, and have a Multiple Subject Credential through CSU, Fullerton (CalState Teach). Prior to joining WCA, I have worked as a preschool teacher, an instructional aide for special education, and a teacher for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

My husband and I have a beautiful blended family of 6 children, and lots of animals located in the rolling hills of Auberry, California. When I’m home, I enjoy spending time with my soul mate, family, and friends. We spend our time running our cattle and bee ranch, along with selling fresh eggs, and vegetables from our garden in the summer. There is always a project to work on or something new to learn!

I joined the Western Christian Academy Family in the summer of 2016 as a teacher. Now, I am the Vice-Principal and the Academic Counselor for preschool through 8th grade. I enjoy working with all the families that join our community every day. I look forward to the new challenges that we face, and the lessons that we learn each day, as they are all blessings from above. May your life be blessed!

About All Our Programs:

With WCA, students are guided through the lessons at their own pace, giving them the chance to master concepts at their ability instead of being rushed through which makes further learning impossible.

This allows students more time when they need it but it also ensures that when a student quickly learns a topic, they are allowed to move on to the next, so no time is wasted.
